Day after day, I tell my Fifth and Sixth Grade students the importance of hiding God’s Word in their hearts. I tell them of children in countries where they cannot have their Bibles sitting on their desks. I remind them that this is a freedom and that freedoms are not always forever. They may always have the freedom to have their Bibles on their desks, but maybe not. What remains then? The scripture we have hidden in our hearts? How much of God’s Word do we know? What can we recite from memory? It matters because these words are the ones that will always remain.
Do we know enough words to sustain a life of following Jesus? What about spiritual growth? Do we know enough scripture to sustain a life of growing as followers of Jesus Christ? Enough. There’s that word again. Can we ever truly know enough of His Word? Is there ever enough of the Bible? Can we know enough of the heart of God?
I desire to know more of my Father’s heart, more of His Word, and more of His love for me. I want to be able to say that I have securely and certainly hidden His word in my heart. I need more of Him.
Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord!
Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with their whole heart,
who also do no wrong, but walk in His ways. You have commanded your precepts
to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!
Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.
I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me.
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Blessed are you, O Lord; teach me your statutes; I will not forget your word.”
~Psalm 119: 1-16
How do we hide His word in our hearts? Scripture memorization is integral to spiritual growth. Perhaps we are not studying scripture with the enthusiasm it deserves in our lives. We must see the value in knowing the Bible from memory so that we can grow in truth. We must long to know Him and to make Him known.
It is my honor to introduce you, sweet readers, to an website that launches today! SonicBiblia is a website that exists to help people meditate on God’s Word and memorize scripture. The website will feature short audio-visual lessons for any memorizable verse in the Bible, free of charge. Each lesson focuses on one Bible verse and lasts approximately 10-15 minutes. Every lesson is linked directly to its reference in the Bible, so you can read or listen to Scripture in context, directly from the SonicBiblia website.
After completing a lesson, you will be able to recite the selected verse and reference from memory.

Sweet friends, I firmly believe in the value of scripture memorization. I have, personally, experienced the way God reveals a specific scripture in just the right moment in my life. I want to walk in His truth, confident of the Gospel, because I have stored His good news in my heart. May we know His words so that we can walk in His ways. May it be said of us.
From my heart to yours,
~Courtney
