Breathe in the sweet aroma of this first Saturday morning of October. I hope you will read this with a coffee cup in hand near a window where you can see the changing leaves or maybe sitting in the crisp air on a front porch swing. I know. My imagination works overtime. {I blame all of the seasonal Hallmark movies. I love those!} Wherever your reality finds you today, I pray that your heart will draw near to Jesus as you read these words.
How can we love like Jesus? We have to know His ways so we can follow in His path. A few years ago, I asked a group of Jesus-followers how they would explain the love of their Savior. The responses were touching and honest.
Two of my friends immediately said, “Unconditional!” Yes!! Jesus loves us without condition. Another noted His “truthful compassion.” Yes!! Jesus is truth and His compassion never compromised truth nor did His truth compromise compassion. And isn’t that the toughest part of loving others: doing one without compromising the other. Jesus perfected this.
To quote a wise woman whom I admire greatly,
Jesus loved by caring about everyone, not just certain people. He loved by giving of himself sacrificially even to the point of death.”
Even to the point of dying in our place. There is no greater love.
May we draw so close to Jesus that we might learn to love sacrificially and without condition. May our love for others never compromise truth or compassion. In our imperfect ways, may we draw close to Jesus so that we may shine, even just a little, of His perfect, complete, abundant love.
May this Saturday in October bless you with opportunities to love as He first loved us.
From my heart to yours,
~Courtney
