Hello, sweet friends. This is one f my favorite topics ever. Why? Perhaps it is intriguing to me that these principles seem obvious at first, but are neglected by those of us who claim to be “following Jesus.” It is not a secret that I drink too much sweet tea. It’s no wonder this topic is near and dear to my heart! I so often ask myself, “How would Jesus behave in a drive through?” I have some thoughts about this subject, friends. I like sharing thoughts, so it is your lucky day. Congratulations, winners!
Practical ways to share the love of Jesus in the Drive Through:
In the line: Be patient. Jesus would be patient. The rest of us? …not quite as patient. We can do better, fellow Christians.
At the speaker: Speak with sincere kindness. Before the cashier can see you, he can hear you. Use a kind tone. Use polite words. Be understanding of mistakes. Thank the cashier before you pull forward.
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. ” ~Matthew 7:12
At the window: This is one of the best places to spread some joy! Occasionally pay for the person behind you and then drive away knowing that God will use that to bless them in whatever way He sees fit. Perhaps it will be a simple reminder that someone cares. It might serve as affirmation of God’s provision. It may begin a chain of kindness and who knows where that chain may go? Who knows how our simple acts of kindness carry from one person to the next, stopping long enough to warm a heart or gift a smile. Simple pay for the person behind you and trust God to use your kindness to His glory in His own way. You simply say, “I’d like to pay for the person behind me, please.” The cashier often asks why you’d like to pay. In your own words, point to Jesus.
Before you drive away: Smile and sincerely wish the cashier a good day. I love to make eye contact and simply say, “I hope you have a wonderful day.”
As you eat or drink your drive-through loot: Pray for the person you’ve encountered. Pray that he or she will come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Pray for the cashier’s day to be pleasant. Pray that the soul you have connected with has seen the love of Jesus clearly. Pray that Jesus will make Himself known in their hearts.
From my {sweet-tea-loving} heart to yours, ~Courtney
