Friday, we welcome you with open arms. {Sigh.} Whatever this weekend holds for you, whether you are approaching it with happy anticipation or a heavy heart, may it be more abundant than your expectations.
May your weekend be filled with things that make your heart smile: the laughter of your children, a strong cup of coffee, or a trip to your grandparents’ farm.
May your children stand on the fence and practice calling the cows. May tractor rides be many and cow patties be few…especially on the bottoms of your kids’ shoes. Yuck.
May you find rest in the busyness of a full weekend calendar, even if just to savor a quiet trip to the grocery store.
May you find friendship on the sidelines of basketball practices.
May your smile warm the hearts of a another mother, sitting on the bleachers, tired and alone.
May you seek God for the words to say when your friend begins the journey down a hard road.
May you throw your head back with laughter in the chaos as you load the minivan, fasten the car seats, and zoom to the next appointment.
May the laundry piles shrink quickly.
May the dusting of furniture and cleaning of bathrooms be accompanied by music that makes you dance and music that beckons your hands to raise in worship…and may your dancing and worshipping not cause the cleaning rags to shake dust and dirt about the house all over again. (I hear that happens.)
May you be warm enough at the gas pump and warm-hearted enough with the sales clerks.
May you be the friend, the sister, the room-mate, the bestie who invites another to Panera for lunch instead of sitting at home alone.
May you breathe in the quiet and be with Jesus in the peaceful moments that you are, indeed, alone.
May you find the courage to ignore the dishes in the sink long enough to enjoy reading a book with someone you love.
May you sing loudly with the baby, even when you are tempted to keep your joyful noise to yourself.
May your schedule clear time for a visit with the loved one who needs and misses your company.
May you find beauty in the pale, winter palette of the outdoors, knowing that this season, too, is hand-crafted by your Creator.
May you stay awake after the children are asleep to paint your nails or read a book, just for you.
May you not stay up so late that you fall asleep in church on Sunday morning. That may happen, I tell you.
May the children and grandchildren in your life practice a bit of patience. May you answer to, “Excuse me, please,” rather than, “Heeeeeeyyyy!!!” A girl can dream.
May your heart be full of friendship from your spouse, even if date nights escape your weekend plans.
May your typing be fast and your research be plentiful, when your weekend finds you in the library, completing a college assignment. …and if you’re an education major, may you get your turn with the laminator. (I remember this all too well. Ed. Majors need the laminator like fish need water. Amen?)
May arms, full of unconditional love and comfort, wrap around you when the unthinkable happens.
May cheers, from those who love you, be loud on the sidelines of your life, encouraging you to run faster, climb higher, and dream bigger.
May the copays be few and the Urgent Care be speedy. (Moms of littles, especially little boys, that was for you. I feel your pain.)
May the blankets, house shoes, and cups of cocoa be extra warm. May the people (or animals) in your home be extra snuggly.
May the gas prices be low and the road be full of adventures.
May the family dinners and the celebrations with friends make memories and produce lasting relationships.
May your soul be satisfied in worship and may your heart glorify our Heavenly Father.
If nothing goes the way you had hoped at all, may your heart be still and know that He, who loves you immeasurably more, is working all things to His purpose. Rest in His promises.
If everything works just as you had hoped, may you give every ounce of the glory to God and may your heart be thankful for His gracious gifts.
In all things, may we praise His Holy name and may our lights shine brightly so that others may know Him.
Happiest of weekends to you!
~Courtney
